Jeff Chang is a modern master of Raku pottery, a traditional Japanese style of ceramics where the vessel is fired at a low temperature and removed from the kiln while red-hot, allowing it to cool in the open air. Chang’s technique and ability to “read the fire” of the kiln allows him to achieve certain glaze combinations that some potters claim is impossible. Most of his current pieces are inspired by family and his Asian ancestry: Prosperity Pots represent health and wealth, Warrior Pots represent strength and protection, Spirit Warrior Pots represent ancestors, and Sumo Pots represent tradition.
